Chezni is a 13 year old boy who was sent from his home in Reiyold to study at The Magic School when it was realized that he had a gift in spiritualism. One day, after attending his lessons, his schoolmates challenge him to climb the ruined tower which sits on the eastern edge of campus. Another classmate named Duke offers to go with him, and the two proceed to climb the tower. At the top, Chezni puts his hand into a hand shaped device, unwittingly awakening the ancient machine Dal Gren and giving birth to the monster Kaimat. Chezni is knocked out, and wakes up some time later to find his school destroyed and all the student killed. The headmaster Daicant arrives shortly and tells Chezni of the prophecy fortelling the revival of Dal Gren and how he is now the only one who can stop it. He meets Midia in Ratsurk, who follows him for his entire journey across Naskuot and Saskuot. Along the way, they learn their own history, that the two are actually Raigans, descendants of Great Gabnid. They also find and stop another descendant from the southern continent, the dictator Zaygos who has created his own monster from Dal Gren. Eventually Chezni gains all the spirits and can cast the mighty Spirit spell, enabling him to defeat Kaimat and stop Dal Gren.

Chezni, who is now calling himself Petro, is acting as a guard of the Great Wall of Nigel. In addition to the ability to fly to the underground world of Andel, he can manipulate all of the spirits, and the people of Eltz have great trust in him. But throughout everything, one of the biggest unanswered questions is not how it is that he has become a guard of Nigel's Great Wall, nor what he saw at Raiga, but why has he gone bald? With Farus, who wins the final battle with Granada at the end, he departs to Raiga.
